Gordon has over 27 years of environmental consulting experience in Canada, the United States. Barbados, and Botswana, and over 7 years of experience as a public servant for the government of the province of Nova Scotia, Canada. Gordon began incorporating climate change considerations into his practice over 20 years ago and for the past decade, his work has focussed on the issue. As an intrapreneur within government, Gordon prompted the introduction of mandatory minimum planning requirements which, in addition to other considerations, will require municipalities to incorporate flooding considerations into their planning documents. He initiated and led development of the Municipal Flood Line Mapping Project, which has created specifications and guidance for fluvial and coastal flood line mapping incorporating climate change and has completed the first flood line maps that will eventually cover the entire province. He is currently providing direct support for the development of regulations for the Coastal Protection Act.
