Originally from Lisbon, Portugal, Ricardo has been practicing as a landscape architect since 2006. He holds a master’s degree in landscape architecture with a focus on environmental planning from the University of California, Berkeley, and a PhD in urbanism from the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro. For the last 10 years, Ricardo has been living and working in Latin America where he specializes in climate change adaptation and disaster risk reduction through ecosystem- and community-based approaches. He has been consulting on these topics in Ecuador, Colombia, Panama, Mexico and Brazil, for multiple stakeholders, from local authorities and NGOs to the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP). Currently, Ricardo is researching the impacts, constraints and opportunities regarding sea level rise in Rio de Janeiro and other Latin American cities as well as coordinating a Masters degree in Landscape Design in Panamá and teaching at universities in Brazil and Mexico.
