I’m interested in the drivers of regional and global sea-level changes on inter-annual to multi-decadal time scales. Regional sea level often behaves different than the global mean, which is challenging for making future sea-level projections. To attribute these differences and regional patterns to physical processes, I use a wide range of models and observations. With these models and observations, we are now more and more able to explain local sea-level behavior, which results in more reliable projections of future changes in regional sea level.
Research Interests: Global and regional sea-level changes, contemporary sea-level observations from satellites and tide gauges, solid-earth processes and gravitational and rotational feedbacks, ocean dynamics and heat content, and mass exchange between the oceans, cryosphere and land.
